Bulk Edit Tasks on a Project

Update assignees, due dates, or budgeted time across multiple tasks at once without editing each one individually.

Bulk Edit Mode lets you update multiple tasks on a project at the same time. Instead of opening each task individually, you can select any number of tasks and change their assignees, due dates, or budgeted time in a single action. This is available on any project's task list.

Enter Bulk Edit Mode

  1. Open a project. The List tab is selected by default and shows the project's Client Tasks and Team Tasks sections.

  2. Click the ellipsis button (vertical three-dot icon) in the upper-right corner of the task list.

  3. Click Bulk Edit Tasks from the dropdown menu.

A Bulk Edit Mode banner appears at the top of the task list. Checkboxes appear next to each task row, and client task sections are dimmed to indicate they are not editable in this mode.

Select Tasks

Click the checkbox next to any task to select it. The banner updates to show how many tasks are currently selected.

To select all tasks in a section at once, click the checkbox in the section header row. Clicking it again deselects all tasks in that section. If only some tasks in a section are selected, the section checkbox shows an indeterminate state.

Tasks can be individually checked and unchecked at any point while Bulk Edit Mode is active.

ℹ️Heads up! Client task sections are grayed out and cannot be selected in Bulk Edit Mode. Only internal project tasks are eligible for bulk editing.

Apply Bulk Changes

With at least 1 task selected, use the action buttons in the Bulk Edit Mode banner to apply changes.

Assignees

  1. Click Assignee in the banner. The Bulk Assignee modal opens.

  2. Click Add assignee to pick team members from the dropdown. Add as many as you need.

  3. (Optional) Check Replace existing assignees if you want to overwrite each task's current assignee list instead of adding to it. Leave it unchecked to keep existing assignees and stack the new ones on top.

  4. Click Apply changes to apply the update to all selected tasks.

Due Dates

  1. Click Due Date in the banner.

  2. Pick a date from the calendar that appears.

The date is applied immediately to all selected tasks once you pick it. No additional confirmation step is required.

Budgeted Time

  1. Click Budgeted Time in the banner. A dropdown opens with the header Change Budgeted Time for N selected task(s).

  2. Enter a value in hours in the input field (for example, 1.5 for 1 hour and 30 minutes).

  3. Click the green checkmark button to apply. Click the X button to cancel without applying.

The same budgeted time value is applied to all selected tasks.

ℹ️Heads up! Each bulk action applies to up to 100 tasks at a time. If you need to update more than 100 tasks, apply the action to a first batch, then select additional tasks and repeat.

Exit Bulk Edit Mode

Click Done in the Bulk Edit Mode banner to exit. Checkboxes disappear, selections are cleared, and the task list returns to normal view.

Navigating away from the project page also exits Bulk Edit Mode.

Limitations

  • Client tasks are excluded. Client task sections are grayed out in Bulk Edit Mode and cannot be selected.

  • Subtasks are not included. Bulk Edit Mode operates on top-level project tasks only. Subtasks are not individually selectable.

  • Maximum 100 tasks per action. Each bulk update (assignees, due dates, or budgeted time) processes up to 100 tasks at a time.

  • Single project scope. Bulk Edit Mode applies to tasks within the open project only. Cross-project bulk editing is not available from this interface.

  • Edit permission required. You must have permission to update the project to use Bulk Edit Mode.
