How to import time entries into QuickBooks Desktop

Export your time tracking data as a spreadsheet you can use for payroll, billing, or any external tool — including manual entry into QuickBooks Desktop.

In this article, we will show you how to export your time tracking information from Financial Cents and then convert it into an .IIF file to import it into QuickBooks Desktop.

Exporting the time entries from Financial Cents

First, you will need to export your time entries from Financial Cents by navigating to Reports > Time Tracking. Once inside the time tracking report, select the date range you want to export.

Then click Export > Download Detailed Report.

Uploading the Time Entries to QuickBooks Desktop

To upload the time entries exported from Financial Cents into QuickBooks Desktop, you will need to convert the file to an .IIF file. Watch the video below for how to do this and upload it to QuickBooks Desktop. You will also need an .IIF template. You can download one here.

Notes:

  • To edit the .IIF file, you may need to convert it to a TSV file first. Rename the file and replace the .IIF on the end of the name with .TSV. You can then open and edit the .TSV file in Excel. Once you have finished editing the TSV file, convert it back to an .IIF file using the same rename method to import into QuickBooks Desktop.
